Levengood on the Weekends (Personal/Update)
This will be the first issue of Levengood Today for the weekend; I’ll be laying down the rules. Now in observance of the weekend, Saturday and Sunday issues of this series will be much shorter than those found on the weekdays. I will cover only two stories as opposed to the usual three of four, and said stories will be much shorter than normal... but that doesn’t mean we still can’t dig down deep into today’s headlines, so let’s get right into it!
Get a Car; Get a Gun (Business)
What’s more American than gas-guzzling cars and big, powerful guns? If you head down to New Hampshire and go down to your local car dealership, you may find on that they are now offering a special promotion with select vehicles: a free assault rifle! This advertising campaign: “Buy a car, get an AR”, flew mostly under the radar, albeit with some local resistance and some bans on social media, such as Facebook, after the Orlando shooting last week, things started to really get rolling. The local issue quickly turned controversial. The problem of gun control is very prominent in today’s American issues, and alongside the likes of abortion, vaccines, and global union, it’s becoming a big issue and at times, a war, among religious groups, as well as, many other organizations fighting for what they believe. The store still offering said gun-promotional offer says that no offense was meant by it, and that it was just out of care for the nation. The dealership has not stopped selling this package. America’s New Market (Business)
IEX, a recently commissioned market, just got approval from the US government to operate, and has recently just began trading. One of the main features of the market is that it is designed to prevent the outpacing of others, a speed bump, so to speak, that puts the whole market on a slight delay, to prevent rich investors with fast machines from quickly outpacing poorer investors. Study’s will be conducted over the course of its life to see if this “speed bump” is effective, but it is currently up for debate as to whether it will work or not. I’m personally not so sure it will, but it seems like a good idea to me. Some industry experts are saying that the bump will hurt their business, but the only way to see for sure it to let it run its course, so in the end only time may tell. (Khaleej Times)
Thanks for reading everyone. As I said, this one, and probably all future editions of Levengood Today will be shorter on the weekends, but everything else will be normal length. Feel free to leave any comments either on my site or via my social media pages, and as always, I’ll see you in tomorrow’s edition.
